As the days slowly approach winter… We want to ask you, Is your wardrobe ready? Have your boots moved to the front of your closet? The tights from the back of your sock drawer? Or your coats from the back room closet?

Well we are gearing up with several fabulous coats that we can not wait to throw on this year!

While she has always carried a limited number, Trina Turk debuted an entire coat collection this year!  And it is fabulous!!  We were lucky enough to receive a few!

The glamour days of air travel–when PSA air hostesses wore pink and orange minis with matching caps, Braniff stewardesses were in head-to-toe Pucci, and futuristic architecture added to the jet set fabulousness of it all–inspired our Fall 1 collection and look book photo shoot at Los Angeles International Airport.

Our theme for the early fall collection is “Come Fly with Me”. The pared back silhouettes of the swinging sixties, and the classic/chic colors of airline logos– red, navy, black and ivory—were combined with structured fabrications to give that early 1960s feel.  We shot our look book at what is now the “Flight Path Learning Center” at Los Angeles International Airport.  It was formerly the VIP-only Imperial Terminal, and our proximity to the runways prompted security checks for our entire photo shoot team!

Nat Reed’s “Auspicious Arrival” and on the bottom, William Leavitt’s 1986 “Theme Restaurant”.

LAX today is in need of a major overhaul and far from world class, but having flown in and out so many times, I know it’s idiosyncracies…and am always happy to touch down in LA.

My favorite photo of this architectural icon is Garry Winogrand’s Untitled (Los Angeles International Airport) from 1964.

These ladies with their pale pumps and bouffant hairdos set the bar high for what to wear when traveling, and their stylish hair was a starting point for our look book hair.

One of the best things about LAX is the landmark Theme Building—a swooping, jet-age icon that has welcomed us all to LA since 1961. It’s appeared in countless films as an establishing shot for Los Angeles, and renderings of it turn up everywhere:

We will feature trends, fashion articles, what the celebs are wearing and much much more! Who knows, we may even sneak in a special Monkee’s promotion exclusively for our readers!

So let’s begin… and what better way then to start with our  5 favorite trends for Fall 2011!

It’s like riding a bike….

March 8th, 2011

This warm weather has inspired me to make some changes here at home.  I won’t bore you with all the details, but first on the list is more time for moi.  So here’s how I’m thinking this will play out… first I’ll sleep in & wake looking really rested & refreshed.  Then after breakfast in bed with a steaming cup of coffee & croissant I’ll take a spin around the city.  Of course, I’ll look tres chic while doing this & probably cause a little commotion as I peddle through the market!  Here’s what I’d wear to go window shopping….

the perfect little zip around town shirt dress!

After I’d head to the farmers market to pick out a beautiful bouquet of peonies…

she looks so put together!

and a little later I’d pick up the finishing touches for that gourmet dinner the Mr. is dying to cook for me…

just the right amount of style icon without overdoing it!

A girl can dream right??!!

How do I love thee…

February 15th, 2011

With today being about all things love we just had to spotlight a few of the girls we love to A-dore here in the Hill!  Check out these pics of fashions fav It Girl, Olivia Palermo at the Tibi photo shoot.  She makes it all look so effortless!

Love the ruffle detail on this coat. Ohh so perfect over your J Brand skinnies!

This cap sleeve dress is sweet but sooo not simple!

And I just had to include this for all of my fellow trendy moms out there!  Look who was seen out about looking very stylish (as always!)  Not only is Heidi Klum drop dead gorg but she isn’t afraid to make a style statement like she did here with these delish turquoise  heels &  this very flirty peasant blouse.  How’s that for a little date-night inspiration!

Happy Valentines Day to all of you die hard romantics!  I’m off to a cozy little dinner with my two favorite little girls & the hubby.  It’s looking like I’ll be cooking so I guess I better stop day dreaming about fashion week! ;-)

Leifsdottir

July 5th, 2010

Monkee’s of Chapel Hill has picked up a new clothing line!

Leifsdottir is a young designer collection by Finland native Johanna Uurasjarvi. Meaning “daughter of Leif,” Leifsdottir illuminates the Scandinavian custom of inheriting your father’s name as your surname at birth. It is this sense of tradition and authenticity that is reflected in each and every Leifsdottir collection. In the words of Uurasjarvi, “No matter how modern our designs, they are always in some way a reflection of the past.”

Leifsdottir expresses its appreciation for the past by using antique-inspired buttons and trims, in addition to old-world tailoring techniques and fabrics. Juxtaposing this are artistic, modern twists like abstract photographic prints, unexpected color combinations, and uniquely draped silhouettes and proportions. This aesthetic tension results in timeless wardrobe keepsakes that appear to be made, rather than manufactured.

Each season, Uurasjarvi crafts an evocative narrative from which she and her team derive inspiration. These stories reflect everything from her recent travels or a magical fairytale to the lives of artists and heroines. Says Uurasjarvi, “We get very inspired by our stories and want to offer this same inspiration to our customers.”

In the eyes of Uurasjarvi, the Leifsdottir customer is hip, optimistic, curious, and cultured. She is a modern woman, who wants to look pretty and polished, while showing off her personality. Because of this, she is drawn to the charm and soul of Leifsdottir.
